Increasing sample numbers concomitant with higher safety requirements, innovative methodology, higher processing speed, and the decrease of costs are driving factors for laboratory automation. This symposium will keep you on top of current trends and developments. First-rate speakers from Europe and the United States will offer insights and opinions from different perspectives: industry requirements, trends in analytical methodology, regulatory requirements, and technology trends. They will also cover standardization efforts supporting different aspects of testing, documentation, and data exchange. Various security issues will also be discussed. Last but not least, we will describe the current situation of healthcare informatics and point out essential directions for future technologies. We are inviting decision makers, users, and developers from the application side as well as technology providers. We are sure that we will be able to address a variety of aspects and give you detailed information for your upcoming decisions and projects. The delegates are invited to contribute to the conference: we will provide enough time for discussions as well as a plenary wrap-up session where the invited speakers and the plenum may exchange ideas. An integral part of the conference will be an all-day exhibition of technology providers. Attending this symposium will benefit your work in many ways: by gaining state-of-the-art information and the opportunity to exchange thoughts with leaders in the field. Wiesbaden, October 2005 Prof. Dr. Reinhold Schäfer
